Nat Weaver, of Derby based fabricator, Ashfen Windows and Doors, has secured a place on an industry challenge to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of mental health charity, Kelly’s Heroes.

Kelly’s Heroes was established in 2019 following the suicide of Kelly Hewitt, daughter of John Hewitt, the former chairman of the Glazerite Group.

Nat will join a team made up of glazing industry representatives who will attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in September. At 5,895m, the dormant volcano, located in Tanzania, is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest volcano in the Eastern Hemisphere.

Nat commented: “I can’t stress this enough, exercise has never come naturally to me! As I’ve got older though, I’ve become more active and craved more and more time outside.

“I’ve gone from a steady hour’s walk a day with the dog, to running and walking with ankle and wrist weights on. I’ve upped the ante by hiking up to Crich War memorial a couple of times, and I’m currently due to meet the team to climb Scafell Pike, then hopefully the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in July.

“Kelly’s Heroes is a charity I’m aware of from my previous work, but I’ve never done any fundraising for them, so when Sarah Ball at Balls2Marketing suggested I get involved, it seemed really dauting at first, but I soon realised what a great opportunity this would be to raise resources for the amazing work that Kelly’s Heroes do.

“Mental wellbeing is important to all of us, and we all struggle at one time or another, in our own individual ways, so how could I not get involved?

“We’re doing it as a team, most of whom I’ve never met, so I’m really excited to get to know some new faces and to support each other with this challenge,” she continued. “My partner and co-owner at Ashfen, Nick, has been incredibly supportive in encouraging me to get as much practice as I can. I’m bowled over by everyone’s generosity – our family, friends, customers, and suppliers have been sponsoring me and it really feels like everyone’s backing us a team to do this – it feels like everyone can see how meaningful this challenge is and how helpful Kelly’s Heroes are in supporting mental health and wellbeing – a big thank you to everyone so far!”
