Modular division launched

Performance Window Fabrications (PWF) has launched a new division to take advantage of the huge growth in the construction of modular homes and commercial buildings across the UK.

Alex and Rebecca Sutherland, of the Birmingham-based manufacturer of aluminium windows and doors, believe the modular sector offers the company a major opportunity to expand.

“Modular construction delivers precision engineered, low carbon buildings,” Alex said. “It is one of the most exciting developments of recent years and it is great to see more homes being built by this method, with thousands in the planning pipeline.

“It is being adopted by many housing developers and local authorities and we expect the market to continue to grow rapidly.

“We have established a modular division so that we can deliver bespoke, high specification products, and our unrivalled expertise in aluminium windows, doors and rooflights, to the companies operating in this innovative sector.”

The housing industry has started to embrace innovation in the supply chain and modular construction – where houses are built in a factory – has the potential to play a key role in this revolution, the company said.

In the past year there have been signs of it becoming a mainstream form of housing development in the UK.

For example, ilke Homes has greed a £30 million investment with Homes England’s Home Building Fund and, in February, the Welsh government announced it is making a £45 million investment in modular housing, in an attempt to increase development of social and affordable homes.

The company has appointed Charlie Skipp as modular and portable buildings business development manager, supported by a team focusing on the modular sector.

“These are exciting times for the PWF group of companies, and we have a clear vision for our future growth,” Alex said.

“Our strategy is to become the supplier of choice for aluminium doors, windows and curtain walling in the whole of the UK. Our growth will involve further investment in the latest fenestration technology and in our highly experienced team.”
