Innovative roofing solutions

By Chris Powell, sales and marketing director at Britmet Lightweight Roofing.

In today’s fast-paced world, property owners are increasingly seeking ways to extend their living spaces, enjoying the comfort and versatility of their homes.

Homeowners are realising the potential of conservatories, roof lanterns, and roof lights to enhance their living environments, providing additional space for relaxation, and entertainment, or as an extension of their existing space.

This newfound appreciation for extended living has opened up exciting opportunities for the roofing industry to create innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of customers.

The power of innovation

At Britmet, we understand the evolving needs of homeowners and the importance of staying ahead of industry trends.

We have embraced these demands and developed a range of lightweight roofing solutions specifically tailored for installers as well as property owners. Our products incorporate unique features that set them apart in the market, ensuring homeowners can create inspiring and comfortable extended living spaces.

One roof at a time, we’re abolishing the belief that conservatories are too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter by prioritising thermal performance. Using advanced materials and construction techniques, we can create roofing solutions that enhance energy efficiency and contribute to sustainable living – saving homeowners money on energy bills too!

By maximising daylight into a home with roof windows or utilising roof space using solar PV, we offer homeowners an immersive connection to the outdoors while enjoying the benefits of a controlled environment. Our lightweight roofing materials are rigorously tested to withstand the harshest weather conditions, providing homeowners with at least 40 years of peace of mind and long-lasting performance.

Products for the Market:

Since its launch at the FIT Show in 2019, LiteSlate has rapidly become an industry favourite due to its authenticity, traditional aesthetics and impeccable durability.

Over 90% of the polymers that LiteSlate is made from are recycled. Every year, we recycle over three million kilograms of polypropylene during the LiteSlate manufacturing process, and with increased production lines running, by the end of 2023, Britmet will have recycled a total of 12 million kilograms of polypropylene.

Our next step was the development of the accessory range using feedback from our technical trainer, Chris Morris, and our installers’ expertise. Their constructive critiques engineered our products to facilitate quick and efficient installation, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free process for both professionals and homeowners.

The LiteSlate accessory range includes pre-formed ridge caps, end caps, and even ridge-to-hip junctions, saving installers time on site with easy installation while providing exceptional aesthetics.

The accessory range includes a LiteSlate ridge that can be used on ridges and hips as it bends to meet your pitch requirements, which can be accompanied by our prefabricated ridge end cap.

Our priority was to design a user-friendly three-way ridge to hip junction to save installers time on site with a quick-fix solution. We’ve also designed hip end caps, end cap 90 and end cap 135, to perfectly finish Edwardian and Victorian conservatories, and a LiteSlate vent tile to provide roof space ventilation without compromising the roof structure or aesthetic design.

The accessory range was promoted at the FIT Show, renowned for showcasing the latest innovations in the fenestration industry, and had a very warm reception.

Our stand attendees were captivated by the perfect blend of aesthetic appeal and long-lasting durability offered in our sustainable roofing solutions, and we are incredibly grateful for the recognition we received.
