Fifteen minutes of fame

Dekko Window Systems has helped transform one deserving family’s property as part of ITV’s hit show Love Your Home and Garden.
Screened on Monday evenings to audiences in excess of four million viewers, the long-running show sees Alan Titchmarsh and his team surprise families in difficult circumstances by completely renovating their home and garden.
Dekko donated one of its Räum aluminium bifolding doors to a project in Banbury, Oxfordshire, which appeared in an episode screened in September.
The episode features a family whose mother suffered a stroke a few years ago and has since gone almost entirely blind, forcing her to leave her job. She has also now been diagnosed with breast cancer and must undergo a mastectomy.
In the midst of this tragic situation are her two daughters, who now must care for their mother and are her eyes around the house. However, the house is completely unsuitable for her needs, and Alan Titchmarsh and his team set about creating a solution.
The designers wanted to let more natural light into the home and allow for an easy transition from the home into the garden, and a set of aluminium bifolds were deemed the ideal product.
ITV initially approached marketing agency Purplex to see if it had any clients who could help out, and Purplex recommended Dekko.
Kurt Greatrex, sales director for Dekko, said: “When I heard what the mother has gone through, and the circumstances of the family, I immediately knew I wanted to help. The installation went smoothly and the family were delighted with their new home. I’m just glad Dekko was able to contribute in some way.
“It was fantastic to gain exposure on a mainstream TV, show and we’ve had some very positive feedback from new and existing customers alike. But appearing on ITV is just the start, we’ve also promoted the TV appearance in the press, on social media and on our website, so it has given us lots of advertising opportunities.”
The Räum aluminium bifold features slim sightlines and can be used to open up entire walls, with two to seven panel combinations creating entranceways up to 7m across. It is available in hundreds of colours, including white sand and space grey, and a choice of matt, gloss or special Coatex finish. A realistic wood effect finish is available for consumers who prefer traditional aesthetics.
Other products in the Räum aluminium range include lift and slide doors, slimline windows and sectional garage doors.
“Räum lift and slide doors can carry up to 300kg in weight and reach heights of up to 2700mm – perfect for large ‘Grand Design’ style projects,” Kurt said. “Räum windows meanwhile can achieve an impressive A++ Window Energy Rating when specified with a triple glazed unit, and our sectional garage doors can be tailored to match a customer’s newly-installed Räum windows, bifolds or sliding doors.”
All Räum products are backed by marketing materials designed to help retail installers position themselves at the higher end of the market. The marketing support package is called Make It Yours, and includes brochures, technical datasheets, folders, drop cards, posters, pull up banners, showroom stands, sample bags, polo shirts, mugs, stickers, photography, digital banners, videos and more.
“We value our customers very highly at Dekko, and Make It Yours has developed to ensure our customers not only have the best products, but also the best marketing materials to support and promote the range,” Kurt said. “The ITV appearance is just another way for us to help promote the Räum range to the retail market.”
