A new versatile door style

Composite door manufacturer, Rockdoor, is set to release a new door style. We take an exclusive first look at the features that make up its latest offering.

Rockdoor is certainly no stranger to composite door innovation. In fact, in the last six months, the Lancashire based manufacturer has successfully introduced a brand-new door texture called Dune (also an industry-first) – to its customers.

The latest innovation from Rockdoor however is a completely new door style, called the Aspen. The whole process from the conceptualisation all the way through to manufacturing features a number of new elements that haven’t been included in any of its previous door styles, including the new look V-groove moulding style.

According to Rockdoor’s joint MD, Simon Bird, the company has invested a significant amount of time developing the exciting new style.

“New door styles are always an exciting prospect for us because it highlights our brilliant R+D team and manufacturing processes,” he explains. “We had to draw a number of different rough sketches at first to get the original Aspen concept, which was then crafted with more precise drawings in both 2D and 3D CAD.

“The final 3D version we printed is the one we’re very pleased to be releasing.

“One of the major additions to the Aspen was changing the size of the V-groove, which runs directly into the S-Glaze technology and allows door furniture to sit cleanly over the profile, giving a real contemporary finish each time and one that doesn’t interfere with the design of the door,” he continues.

“Although the Aspen was originally intended to be the solution to a contemporary back door, we have designed a style that has the potential for a fantastic entrance to both the front and back of our customers’ homes. We really can’t wait for this one to hit our installers’ showrooms.”

According to Simon, the majority of Aspen’s design stems from the type of glazing unit used which, he adds, is by far the standout feature of the new door.

A narrow pane of glass that is large enough to allow the maximum amount of natural light into a property, yet narrow enough for homeowners to feel secure against potential intruders, is designed to strike the perfect balance between aesthetics and security.

Not only this, but like all other Rockdoors, the glazing is combined with the unique S-Glaze technology, which forms part of the makeup of the door itself, rather than clip-on glazing cassettes seen in other composite doors.

It’s a process that Rockdoor has used for decades and continues to be the only composite door brand to do so.

On the topic of the glazing, Simon points out that the bottom edge of the door glass has been positioned to perfectly match the height of the majority of kitchen worktops. This makes it an ideal solution for a back door, but again, it can additionally be lined up for flag frames for use in front doors too.

Aspen also allows further elements to be incorporated into the door profile such as letterplates and cat flaps. These are a standard offer in other composite doors, but Aspen has been designed so that they can still guarantee a sleek finish every time, without risk of interfering with the design of the mouldings.

“Rockdoor is no strangers to bold ideas,” concludes Simon. “The Aspen is a testament to all of the things we do so well, with security, energy efficiency, style and choice in mind, we’re confident that our latest door style will follow the success we’ve enjoyed with previous releases.”
