Liniar ‘steps up’ for local charities

Liniar donated 593 non-perishable food items during November. The much-needed items will be distributed by charity Salcare to people needing support in the Heanor area this Christmas.

The company has a strong history of supporting both local and national causes, and its annual food drive is an activity that has been running for a number of years. This year, despite the cost-of-living crisis, the collection has seen the most generous results to date.

In addition to the food drive, Liniar’s team members have been choosing, wrapping and donating Christmas gifts for adults and children currently being supported by Derbyshire WISH, a local charity that offers advice, support and refuge for people suffering the impact of domestic abuse.

Liniar’s group managing director, Martin Thurley, commented: “Charities are under more pressure than ever as household budgets are squeezed and donations fall. The cost-of-living crisis is being felt throughout our community, both physically and mentally.

“The sad fact is that families are having to choose between heating their homes and buying food and unfortunately, this kind of pressure can also result in a rise in domestic violence.”

Martin continued: “I’m always proud of the way the Liniar team pull together to assist the local community. The food they’ve collected will help people stretch their money just that little bit further and the gifts, which could be the only present some receive this Christmas, will offer a small respite to those facing an uncertain future through no fault of their own.”

In addition to the food donations, Liniar, via its parent company Quanex and the Quanex Foundation has also donated £1,000 to Salcare.

Martin concluded: “As we approach the festive season, we need to remember those in our community who aren’t so fortunate. It is a tough time for everyone; energy, fuel and food price rises have hit every part of our nation – and yet I never cease to be amazed at the generosity of everyone at Liniar.

“I feel truly privileged to be a part of this great team.”
