Despite effortlessly incorporating natural light in the home, rooflights have long been considered the unsung hero when it comes to modern home design, but it seems they are finally getting the attention they deserve. Andy Short, director at Jack Aluminium, talks about how the systems company is reacting to trends with the evolution of its TRL90 flat rooflight.

Just as kitchen layout and paint colours are a pivotal part of modern home design, creating a light and bright space is just as important to homeowners. Whether it’s a north facing property, or an extension added to the rear, rooms can very easily become dull and dark, so finding solutions to brighten spaces can make a huge difference.

We know how valuable open-plan living is in increasing natural light, thanks to the removal of internal walls, and how the introduction of internal glazing systems is in maintaining that light while establishing a broken-plan aesthetic.

Rooflights, however, are an effective way to maintain the amount of light entering the home, no matter what the blueprint of a property is.

Helping to meet demand

The demand is evident, and we can see it from our own data. Alongside our most popular product offerings, our TRL90 has become a consistent product of interest – whether users are searching for it on our website, downloading our technical product sheets, requesting a quote or placing an order – it has been the third most searched for page on our website over the past six months, which makes it one of the top innovations in our core offering,

In addition to retrofitting commercial properties, it’s no surprise that our rooflights have become an integral part of contemporary residential property design, due to the modern architectural, flush finish that delivers homeowners a light, bright and airy space. Plus, with the benefit of a single profile, the TRL90 is value-engineered for straightforward manufacturing and fitting, so we’re also delivering fabricators with a hassle-free solution they can sell to their customers.

Our ethos has always been simple – we listen to our customers and the trends, to figure out what demand our products need to fulfil so we can design a system that’s fit to deliver it – and that’s no different with our rooflight offering. We’re committed to investing our resources into product research and development to produce market-leading innovations. We’ve dedicated the past six months to pushing our rooflight offering even further, so we’re excited for that to launch soon.

Whether it’s larger rooflights or extended runs of rooflight profiles, our new transom profile is taking our offering one step further with greater design flexibility and the promise of even more natural light. It also gives fabricators and installers the opportunity to widen their offering, whether it be for commercial or residential projects, and we’re looking forward to giving our customers even more innovation, so they can go on grow their own offering.

Continuous investment

On top of expanding our popular rooflight range, we have also introduced a pivot door to our ID30 range of internal glazing systems, to offer even greater choice for our customer. We have also moved into a new 28,000ft2 factory on the outskirts of Coventry.

This has helped us stick to our commitment of delivering on short lead times, while responding to the increasing demand for stock colour options and a broader array of choice when it comes to stunning, highly efficient, architectural glazing.
