The glass and glazing industry presents unique challenges when it comes to health and safety. From handling heavy materials and working at heights to operating machinery and managing hazardous substances, ensuring the safety of workers is paramount.

As the voice of the industry and with the intention of raising standards, this is something the GGF takes very seriously. Last year we launched the IOSH Managing Safely in the Glass & Glazing Industry training course.

It is highly regarded and provides business owners, managers and supervisors with the essential knowledge and skills needed to create safer workplaces, reduce accidents and comply with health and safety legislation.

It is unique to the industry and the only IOSH approved course for our sector!

Thanks to its success since being rolled out, we’re now running the course this year on 12-14th May and 20-22nd October, offering a crucial opportunity for those in the sector to upskill and enhance their safety management capabilities.

Essential training

For those responsible for health and safety within our sector, the IOSH Managing Safely course is the gold standard. It is specifically tailored to the unique risks associated with the industry, ensuring participants gain practical insights that can be directly applied in their daily operations.

The course covers key topics, including:

  • Risk assessment and hazard control – Learn how to identify risks unique to glass handling, installation and fabrication and implement effective controls.
  • Legal responsibilities – Gain a clear understanding of current UK health and safety regulations and how they apply to your business.
  • Incident investigation – Develop the skills to analyse workplace accidents, identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Workplace safety culture – Discover how to foster a proactive safety culture within your team, reducing accidents and improving compliance.
  • Environmental management – Learn about sustainability and how to minimise your organisation’s environmental impact.

Who should attend?

This course is ideal for:

  • Managers and supervisors – Those overseeing operations where safety management is critical.
  • Health and safety representatives – Individuals responsible for ensuring compliance and promoting workplace safety.
  • Business owners – Those looking to enhance their company’s health and safety standards while staying compliant with regulations.

It’s really important for anyone considering going on the course to know that you don’t require any prior health and safety experience, which makes this course suitable for both those new to management roles or those needing a refresher.

Enrolling in the GGF IOSH Managing Safely course comes attached with a host of benefits, both for individuals and their businesses:

  • Enhanced safety awareness – Reduce the risk of accidents and injuries, ensuring a safer working environment.
  • Improved efficiency – Implement safer work practices that lead to reduced downtime and increased productivity.
  • Industry-specific training – Unlike generic health and safety courses, this programme addresses the real-world challenges faced by glass and glazing professionals.
  • Recognised certification – Successful candidates receive an IOSH Managing Safely certificate, demonstrating their competence in health and safety management.
