Over the years, colour has become one, if not the most important element of choosing a new entrance door.

It enables homeowners, and in some cases social housing residents, to inject their property’s exterior with personality.

As the UK’s largest supplier of composite doors, it’s our responsibility to empower our customers and provide them with the best possible products and service so they can meet consumer demand. As such, our paint service is now a vital step in our full-service package.

With growing demand for our painted products, we made a bold move to deliver on our planned investment programme during the pandemic and expand our paint facility with a new spray booth.

We also invested in an extraction system and reorganised the paint shop to include a new paint mixing zone and an extended drying area.

These changes enabled paint volumes to increase and support capacity. With some of the best sprayers in the industry we are producing quality painted products, which our customers appreciate.

New colours in 2022

Six new colours launched in April – Distinction slate grey, Distinction pebble grey, pale green, porcelain blue, telemagenta and turquoise blue. They replaced six existing colours to preserve our commitment to supply only much-loved, current and inspirational colours for our doors.

Eight months in and these new colours have been extremely well-received. Given the enduring popularity of grey and blue tones, it’s unsurprising that the largest number of orders can be attributed to Distinction slate grey.

Distinction pebble grey and porcelain blue then follow, with turquoise blue and pale green. Rounding off the new selection, the striking telemagenta may account for a smaller number of orders so far, but we’re thrilled that some homeowners are picking this exotic option.

Anthracite is No1

We all understand that grey – particularly anthracite grey, is steadfastly popular. During the pandemic there were rumblings from designers, bloggers and influencers that grey may have had its day, but that’s simply not the case when it comes to entrance doors.

Rather than the all-grey trend pre-2020, grey is now being used as a foundation colour. A versatile neutral, it allows other colours to pop and has become a perfect pairing for an array of palettes.

And so, it will come as no surprise that anthracite grey, once again, reigns supreme in our top 10 paints, taking the number one spot. In fact, it has widened the gap on its closest rival, with orders increasing in 2022 (January – November 2022).

It is one of five greys in the top 10, with agate grey in at number three; Distinction Buckingham grey at five; Distinction grey at six; and Distinction slate grey in 10th position.

Second place is taken by Distinction Chartwell which climbs two places after an impressive increase in orders. Similarly, Distinction agate grey and Distinction black brown have risen three and four places, respectively, entering the top five. Both have enjoyed excellent sales growth this year.

Distinction steel blue is the only one to fall – dropping three places to number eight. Either side of this sits duck egg at number seven and distant blue at number nine.

The fact is the UK’s love affair with blue and grey entrance doors appears to be unwavering. This year, the entire top 10 can be pinpointed to either colour on the spectrum – Distinction black brown is arguably the only exception.

Last year, we had ruby red in ninth place to infuse a touch of Hollywood glamour, but alas, not in 2022.
