Doncaster Glass automates with Edgetech

Doncaster Glass & Glazing is celebrating 15 years of partnership with Edgetech, marking a journey that has included a recent successful transition to automation.

The IGU manufacturer has used Edgetech’s Super Spacer since 2010 but recently, with Edgetech’s guidance, the company made the strategic move to automation to increase capacity and improve product quality.

Peter Jurgens, managing director of Doncaster Glass & Glazing, said: “We’d been looking at automation for several years as our volumes increased, we needed some help with that and realised automation was the way to go.

“We’d been a partner with Edgetech since 2010, so we decided to go down the Super Spacer avenue using a repurposed line put forward to us from Tony Palmer at Edgetech and after looking at the cost and the support they would give us, it made sense to make the transition to automation.”

According to Peter, the results have been impressive, with notable improvements in both quality and efficiency. “The quality is second to none,” he said. “The spacer is perfectly positioned around the glass every time, ensuring perfect sightlines. It’s also massively improved throughput and we’re now hitting our capacity targets with less staff.”

The partnership has proven particularly valuable in terms of ongoing support – something that has been the case for the last 15 years.
