The British Fenestration Rating Council (BFRC) is now offering IGU Evaluation Services, the latest in a range of products and services designed to help raise performance standards in the industry.

Richard Sellman, managing director of BFRC, explained: β€œWith ever changing legislation and increasing scrutiny being placed on the construction industry as a whole, it’s important we evolve to support our customers in these challenging times.

β€œWe’ve been working hard at BFRC to develop our offering to ensure we can provide relevant and necessary products and services and we believe our IGU Evaluation Service is a critical development for the industry.

BFRC offers a variety of testing services to determine the performance of insulated glass units. These include:
β€’ Gas Concentration – This can be carried out onsite in situ, or at your factory, measuring end of the line production values.
β€’ Emissivity Measurement – The BFRC can determine the level and position of the emissivity in an IGU.
β€’ Dew Point Measurement – can be used to help determine the remaining life expectancy of the unit.
β€’ FaΓ§ade Evaluation – this involves calculating the Ug-value, evaluating the elevation and the life expectancy of the units (Dew Point Testing).

According to the BFRC, a combination of the above tests can estimate the energy efficiency of the existing IGU system, supporting building management and sustainability goals.

Richard continued: β€œThe most effective way to confirm production quality is to assess units at the point of manufacture. Our team can provide accurate, independent measurement and analysis, giving manufacturers a clear picture of product performance.

β€œWhere processes are functioning correctly, our findings will validate this; where issues exist, they can be addressed before products reach the market. These assessments reflect everyday production – not specially prepared units – helping ensure that products installed in buildings perform as promised.

β€œWe want to be clear that our intention is to support the industry, not to identify fault. By acting early, manufacturers can avoid facing more serious issues later if underperforming products are discovered in situ.

β€œOur testing and reporting help businesses prevent costly mistakes and maintain confidence in product performance. We recognise the pressures manufacturers face, and we understand that the need to revise production methods can feel daunting. However, BFRC fully supports measures that drive improved performance and safety across our industry and are fully to committed to offering customers solutions that make a real difference.”
