Bennett Architectural worked on three parts of Victoria Gate in Leeds, including a complex diagrid pattern for the rooftop restaurant of John Lewis, which was formed using laser cut aluminium sheets in gold ionized finish with structured silicon glazed curtain walling.

The project recently scooped the Retail Project of the Year at the World Architecture Festival in Berlin.

For the Victoria Gate arcade, frameless glazing systems – including curved glazing – were installed using bonded angles to the back of the glass inside concrete panels.

Installations on the arcade’s rooftop restaurant included Kawneer AA100 roof glazing, AA720 windows within Cor-Ten Steel rain screen cladding, and curved glazing to corners.

Lionel Grant, managing director at Bennett Architectural, said: “This was an architecturally stunning scheme to work on. The John Lewis rooftop restaurant presented significant challenges for the curtain wall system from an engineering point of view but we worked with a specialist glass engineering company to achieve this innovative solution.”
