Rainham-based commercial aluminium specialist, LSF Commercial, has delivered a new aluminium envelope across seven storeys on Newham College’s East Ham campus.
The college is reported to be one of the largest further and higher education providers in East London, with its East Ham Campus serving as the college’s main site.
As part of a large-scale refurbishment, LSF Commercial was appointed to supply and install all new aluminium windows, doors and curtain walling.
The scope covered curtain walling for the main entrance, new doors on the ground floor and replacement windows across all seven storeys. LSF fabricated everything using systems from Comar by Bailey, formally Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems.
At the entrance, large, glazed curtain walling brings as much daylight as possible into the building while improving thermal performance. Above it, the old windows have made way for high-efficiency, powder-coated Comar aluminium windows.
“Comar’s systems are a natural fit for education,” explained LSF director, Onkar Toot. “They perform well thermally, they’re robust and they look sharp. For a college, that means lower heating bills, more comfortable classrooms and a building that will last.”
Onkar adds that education is a sector LSF knows well. Its work for schools, colleges and universities has to balance security, safety and natural light.
“Schools and colleges have very particular needs,” continued Onkar. “Windows and doors have to be secure and meet strict standards, yet students still need bright, comfortable spaces to learn in. We’ve spent years getting that balance right, and Newham is a good example of it.”
LSF Commercial, based in Rainham, Essex, fabricates and installs high-performance aluminium windows, doors, fire-rated systems, curtain walling and shopfronts for commercial projects nationwide.
