One story that caught my eye this week was Eurocell’s announcement that it has been working with Windowmaker to develop a new U-value and G-value calculation solution to help fabricators comply with the Future Homes Standard.

While the Future Homes Standard has been delayed more than once, there’s little doubt that the direction of travel is towards more detailed, product-specific compliance. That means the days of relying on generic calculations for multiple window configurations could soon be numbered.

Eurocell says it has spent the past two years integrating more than 10,000 verified thermal performance data points into Windowmaker’s software, allowing fabricators to generate accurate U-value, G-value and frame factor calculations automatically as quotations are produced.

The significance isn’t just the technology itself, but the preparation. Many fabricators are said to remain uncertain about exactly how the Future Homes Standard and the Home Energy Model will affect their businesses, so having software that can simplify what could become a much more complex compliance process is likely to be welcomed.

As the industry edges closer to the new regulations, we can probably expect to see more manufacturers investing in digital tools and technical data to help customers navigate the changes.

Those who prepare early should be in a stronger position when the new requirements finally arrive.
