Get ready for skinny triples

Is the UK glazing industry finally ready to fully embrace the potential of triple glazing? In last week’s newsletter, I highlighted the investment from Regency Glass in bringing its new ultra-thin glass triple glazing solution to the UK market, a product that is around 30% lighter than conventional triple and one that is compatible with a standard 28mm profile.
Regency’s new dedicated factory and distribution centre is gearing up to start supplying customers in the new year.
But Regency isn’t alone in its efforts to introduce next generation triple glazing to the UK market. At FIT Show, Forel also reported a huge amount of interest in its G24 Award winning IGU lines that can produce ‘skinny triples’ compatible with 70mm window systems.
According to Forel, this first of these lines is due to be installed at a major glass manufacturer towards the end of 2025.
These innovations may use different methods, but the end goal is the same – a product that overcomes traditional barriers for triple glazing, such as weight, handling and manufacturing efficiency.
Given the demand for energy efficiency in both replacement and new build sectors, the potential for thin, lightweight triples is huge – you can read more about Regency Glass and Forel in the July issue of Glass Times.
In other news, Pilkington has opened a new glass production line at its Greengate Works site in St Helens and Deceuninck UK has revealed that it will be ‘shaking up aluminium’ supply following a restructuring that brings the Decalu aluminium range into the fold of its PVC-U operations.
For customers, that means a single point of contact for both PVC and aluminium product ranges.
In further industry news, NorDan has also announced the acquisition of Performance Doorset Solutions (PDS), enhancing its capacity to supply fully certified fire door sets into residential, commercial, social housing and construction projects in the UK and Europe.
