New life for period cottage

KAT’s aluminium entrance doors were recently selected to upgrade a Cheshire period cottage.

The owner of an 18th Century cottage in Cheshire embarked upon a refurbishment project and was looking for new entrance doors at the front and back of the house that would complement her aluminium windows, provide excellent security and weatherproofing, while remaining sympathetic to the period and character of her home.

The door was previously PVCU and was worn and tired, but also did not do justice to the white exterior colour of the cottage. The new homeowner felt that the PVCU was not in-keeping with the romantic heritage of the cottage.

The owner decided timber would require a lot of maintenance externally considering the position and weather systems the home faces in the valley.

She visited KAT’s showroom in Macclesfield, Cheshire, and was quickly attracted to the aspirational quality of KAT’s aluminium doors. The fact KAT could fulfil the order within two weeks was a huge benefit to the homeowner as she had left her decision making to the last minute.

The homeowner chose two aluminium entrance doors for the front and back of her home. With a four-point Cobra lock and a 3-Star diamond security cylinder with Kitemark, the doors offered the security desired by the family as well as excellent thermal values.

“We are delighted by the visual effect of the contrasting anthracite grey doors to the white walls,” she said. “The aluminium gives us peace of mind with its durability and security, yet looks impressive too. The house feels noticeably warmer and secure.”
