Supplier switch

Newport-based IDM Doors has signed up with Eurocell, switching from its original supplier because it wanted a long term supplier that “could simultaneously deliver brand, range, quality, service and business support alongside a leading system”.

“I was impressed with the whole package,” managing director Ian Pritchard said. “The multi-chamber design of the Eurologik profile and the way it incorporates reinforcement is very modern. We also liked the support that Eurocell offers in supplying new leads in new building and social housing.

“Some 80% of our business is social housing, which has to have Secured by Design certification, so that was another important factor. And we also supply a lot of composite doors and this profile is compatible with them, when many profiles aren’t.”

Established 13 years ago by Ian and technical director David Smith, IDM has grown from being a two-man operation to now employing 20 full-time staff – 14 in the factory while six install doors and windows – and fabricating 300 frames per week plus 40 composite doors from its 5,000ft2 premises.

The changeover from one profile system to another was seamless, Ian said, as Eurocell worked with Haffner, the manufacturer of the SMR 4 welder, so that the operation was back in production within a week, including two days training for the operatives.
