Securing standards

On October 1, 2018, an updated version of the PAS 24 standard, which covers enhanced security doorsets, came into effect.

PAS 24:2016 is now mandatory for all new developments or refurbishment projects that wish to meet Secured by Design (SBD), and this includes the requirement for TS008 letterplates to be installed on all doorsets.

What’s more, a recent advice note from The Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) stated that any one supplying or installing new products into existing properties should meet the requirements of Part B, E, L, M and Q of the Building Regulations.

TS008:2015 certified letterplates are specifically referenced within the Building Regulation’s Approved Document Q as being shown to protect against various attack methods, including letterplate ‘fishing’.

As a result, Yale has developed its Postmaster Professional letterplate.

Paul Atkinson, commercial director for Yale Door and Window Solutions, said: “With new and calculated burglary methods being reported, it is vital that we provide products that help our customers adhere to the latest standards. Our new TS008 Yale Postmaster Professional letterplate combines superior security, a modern design and a range of unique features, making it an unrivalled product within the current letterplate market.

“It has an external austenitic 304 stainless steel letter flap that opens 180º to help eliminate excess leverage on pivot points and a complete peripheral seal on the external flap to help form a thermal and acoustic barrier.

“We’ve ensured that there is sufficient space between the door cut out and the outer flange in order to aid with the fabrication process. It can be altered to fit a range of door thicknesses with its unique telescopic feature and it’s incredibly easy to fit, with just four fixings.”
