By David Palmer, GGF technical officer.

The Glass and Glazing Federation, serving its members and the wider UK industry since 1976, is recognised for its wealth of technical expertise, its commitment to improving skills & competency, and for being the most influential trade body in the industry.

But did you know that the GGF also offers a range of consultancy services?

How we help

With a combined experience in the glass and glazing industry in excess of 140 years, the GGF consultancy team is ideally placed to assist with site inspections, desktop assessments, calculations and more.

Not only that, but with the capabilities available through the wider GGF Group companies we are able to leverage other services at incredibly competitive rates.

What’s more, our consultancy services are not just available to members, but to everyone in the supply chain, from architects to homeowners and the various stakeholders in between.

Just some of the services available…

  • Visual quality inspection; For disputes where the acceptability of glass panes, framing or finishes is in question. Examples may be scratches, stains or distorted aesthetics.
  • Installation quality inspection; For disputes where the installation is in question. Examples may be concerns over building regulation compliance, levels of workmanship or moisture ingress.
  • Glass breakage investigation; To identify the root cause of fractured panes. Useful for panes which have spontaneously broken without an obvious apparent cause, to try and understand which party in the supply chain, if any, is culpable. Can involve independent laboratory testing.
  • Risk assessment; For existing glazing situations only, identifying to what extent the glazing on site is safe and whether additional measures should be taken to minimise risk to building users.
  • Static calculation; Used at design stage to ascertain how glazing build-ups are capable of withstanding certain loading scenarios such as barrier, wind, snow or maintenance. Can also be used as part of glass breakage assessments where relevant.
  • Heat soak oven calibration; Required to prove that heat soak tested glass produced in the oven is compliant with the product standard. Should be carried out on a regular basis.
  • Product testing; Where independent verification of a products performance is required, we can facilitate the testing & certification, offering advice & guidance throughout the process.
