After-installation sill launched

Emplas is launching a new clip-on sill option on its F82 aluminium bifolding door, eliminating the risk of damage during installation and while other trades are still on site, the company said.

Developed in partnership with Aluk, the new solution delivers significant benefits in new build but also home improvement installs and is available in four options: 95mm, 150mm, 190mm and 225mm.

John Leary, sales and marketing director at Emplas, said: “It’s simple but it’s genius. Sills can easily be damaged or scratched during installation, so fitting it after the door has gone in, or after other trades have finished on site if it’s a new build or extension, is simple logic. That’s important as the volume of aluminium bifolds going into new build increases.”

Emplas launched Aluk’s F82 Luminia aluminium bifolding door in May 2019, which delivers enhanced performance and aesthetics and opportunities to tap into higher margin sales, the company said. This includes U-values of 1.4W/m²K with a double-glazed unit, and as low as 0.9W/m²K when triple glazed.

Capable of spanning larger expanses, while maximising glazed area and with symmetrical sightlines on the frame, it’s also fully tested to PAS24 and Part Q.

Luminiahas a maximum individual leaf width of 1,200mm, heavy duty rollers to deliver smooth operation, and sashes that can accommodate individual sash weights of 150kg.

John said: “We’ve seen substantial growth in volume since we started manufacturing Luminia last year. That’s been driven by demand in home improvement but also a growing number of new build installs.

“With SBD, Part Q approved and with U-values down to 1.4W/m²K – it lends itself to newbuild. In that environment, the ability to fit or replace sills after install is a massive advantage.”
