The Window Company (Contracts) supported Moat Foundation’s In to Work scheme at Moat Homes’ community hub in Stanhope, Kent – and recruited not one but two young trainees as a direct result.

The specialist commercial installer, which is the housing association’s long term partner on window and door replacement, spotted such potential in Josh Twyman when he took part in the scheme that it offered him a full time job as a yard assistant at its satellite warehouse site in Bethersden. From there, he progressed quickly to an improver fitter role and has just completed his NVQ Level 2 in window installation.

But the success story doesn’t end there. The Window Company (Contracts) has since offered a similar opportunity to Josh’s younger brother Zack, and he has also just started a fenestration installation apprenticeship leading to the same NVQ Level 2 qualification. Zack is combining 18 months of on the job training working on the company’s contract with Ashford Council with college learning provided by East Sussex College.

Rob Petre, The Window Company (Contracts)’ managing director, said: “We have been keen supporters of the Moat Foundation since we were first awarded the Moat contract in 2010, because of the way it helps us to make a positive impact in the communities where we work.

“Recruiting Josh and Zack via the Moat Foundation hub in Stanhope is particularly special because, not only are we helping both youngsters make a successful transition into work, we’re also setting them up for what could be long and successful careers working within their own community.

“All the fitters working on our Ashford council project have been recruited from within Kent and 60% are from the Ashford area, so Josh and Zack are getting lots of valuable mentoring from experienced local members of the team, and this will stand them in really good stead as they build their careers in fenestration.”

The Window Company (Contracts) is an award-winning commercial installer operating across London and the South East. Alongside the BSI Kitemark for Surveying and Installation, it also holds ISO9001, ISO45001 and ISO14001 and is PAS2030 accredited for SHDF-funded projects.
