Glazing representation

The glazing industry is now being represented on the Building Regulations Advisory Committee (BRAC) which advises the Secretary of State in England on making Building Regulations and setting standards for building design and construction.

This news has been welcomed given the upheaval around Building Regulations since the Grenfell Tower tragedy and the overall state of the construction industry.

Chairman at Certass and Certass Trade Association Jon Vanstone said: “It is high time that glazing is represented at this level, so that our industry concerns, and achievements, can be shared at government level and be considered properly with changes to Building Regulations.

“Glazing is such an integral part of a building to get right, so it’s only right that there should be a glazing representative within BRAC.”

Managing director Jason Clemmit and technical and quality manager Clive Gibbs are both members of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers.

Jon chairs the Competent Persons Forum (CPF), Trade Association Forum (TAF) and the leadership committee for RoofCert as well as being part of BRAC.

“Being part of such diverse committees, with representatives from a number of different sectors, means that, as an industry, we can learn from other organisations within the construction business to help build glazing industry standards,” Jon said.
