Forming strong unions

UK door and window hardware manufacturer Winlock Security celebrates 30 years of business this month.

Established in 1987 in Telford, Shropshire, Winlock has made and sold more than 25 million window handles. This is over 5,500 tonnes of metal, and equates to twice the weight of the steel in Blackpool Tower. Laid end to end the handles would cover the distance across the Atlantic from England to the USA.

The company’s longest serving employee Diane Roberts has been at the Telford factory for 43 years, back when it made camlocks and locking cylinders for cabinet locks, lockers and garage doors.

Winlock will be unveiling more than 10 brand new SKUS in 2017, the first being the Trimas 3 star cylinder.

“It’s an exciting time for Winlock,” said Winlock Security managing director Alan Parker. “We have, and will continue to, heavily invest in developing unique products and unrivalled services which will set Winlock and our customers not only apart, but more importantly ahead of our competition.

“We are prepared to fill product and service niches that our bigger competitors are unable or unwilling to meet. If a customer has a problem, we want to provide the solution. Over our 30 years of trading we have formed strong unions with many key hardware suppliers and our partners include Imperial, Kenrick, GU, and Yale.”
