A decade old

Plymouth-based architectural aluminium company Nordic Installations is celebrating its 10th anniversary in June.

The company was established in 2007 by Graham Shaddick and Chris Northam, and has continued its steady growth throughout this time with employee numbers rising into the 30s.

Nordic specialises in the manufacture and installation of high quality doors, windows, and curtain walling within the commercial and domestic sector. Working alongside some of the south west’s largest construction companies on projects that have included hospitals, colleges, schools, retail parks, hotels and leisure centres.

The company is currently involved in the refurbishment of Plymouth Pannier Market for Ryearch, which has been one of its largest contracts to date.

“Since we acquired our new premises in June 2014 we have all been working very hard to make sure that we have the correct systems in place for the smooth running of our client’s projects,” Graham said. “Firstly, we removed some walls and strengthened other areas to accommodate anticipated increases in stock levels, we also made the office areas more open plan and user friendly, when it came to replacing the windows and doors, we decided to take the job on ourselves, and luckily everything fitted!”

Chris said: “We have come on a long way from the days when we first started, and had to sit on rolls of insulation (no chairs!) and huddle around our single laptop that was balancing on a scaffold plank between two trestles, while manufacturing doors with our other hand.

“We are very proud to be able to employ so many valuable members of staff, and we hope that they will stay with us for as long as possible. Looking forward, with the continued help of Skills Group, we hope to bring youth into all aspects of our industry.”

Graham concluded: “All of us here at Nordic would like to thank everyone that has been involved with our development throughout the last ten years; we couldn’t have done it without you.”
