Will homeowners invest to reduce energy consumption?

Chris Armes, Liniar’s design & development director, says that record energy bills will be a catalyst for homeowners to invest in their properties and explains more about the company’s ground breaking Zero 90 system.

The UK has seen unprecedented fuel price increases over the past 12 months, with many charities declaring an emergency as the ongoing impact of price rises will put millions of families into fuel poverty.

As consumer energy bills hit an all-time high, homeowners will be looking for ways to reduce their energy consumption.

In addition, we all have a responsibility to make changes to the way we live, travel and work to reduce our carbon footprint and try to reverse the climate crisis for generations to come.

Giving consumers the option to put energy efficiency first when purchasing windows and doors could go a long way to helping reduce household bills.

Liniar designed its original window system with energy efficiency as the leading benefit, closely followed by a six-chamber system, EnergyPlus.

In 2017, Liniar introduced what’s still the UK’s only 90mm PVC-U casement window, with the technology in this system specifically designed to achieve PassivHaus accreditation.

The multi-chambered profile construction in the 90mm window helps offer the lowest U-values on the market for a PVC-U casement, reaching U-values as low as 0.7 W/m²K triple glazed and a staggering 0.5 with quadruple glazed units. The system can help properties hold steady, inside ambient temperatures of 19°C throughout the changing seasons.

At Liniar we believe legislation will move fast from here onwards. Gone are the days of waiting over a decade for increases in thermal performance. With energy costs still rising and climate change firmly on the agenda, whether legislation follows Europe to the PassivHaus standard or not, offering consumers a choice that helps them to save money and the planet at the same time would appear to be a ‘no-brainer’.

As a business, we’re constantly looking at ways Liniar can help properties become more energy efficient. We feel it’s our responsibility to create windows and doors that can help households live as efficiently as possible to reduce both their energy consumption and their carbon footprint.

I’m very proud of our 90mm system – it’s a ground-breaking window system in its own right and we’re investing in developing the range even further with the addition of key products in 2022. The full Zero 90 system will help developers and homeowners meet their Net Zero carbon targets.

Demand is rapidly increasing in the marketplace for a PVC-U system in the UK that achieves PassivHaus status, judging by the volume of enquiries Liniar receives. The cost of building a PassivHaus property is usually significantly higher than a standard build; however, Liniar can help developers reach the required values without breaking the bank.

By designing the system with its multi-chambers, we are using the best insulative material… air! The equal chambers, in conjunction with triple and quadruple glazing, act as thermal breaks – all helping the windows reach incredible U-Values and Energy Ratings.

First to market

As with any new product, those who jump on board quickly are usually the first to gain. Liniar fabricators have the ideal opportunity to get ahead of the competition by offering the Zero 90 range, and to be part of this exciting journey. We are developing a suite of launch materials to assist with this, with existing 90mm fabricators already seeing many more leads coming through.

Our continual investment programme in product development results in the innovative systems we’re able to create for the benefit of our customers. We’re all very eager to play our part in the sustainability challenge and see where the future of product innovation takes us and the launch of our new Zero 90 range will be a game-changer for our industry.
