DoorCo recently announced its expansion to Doncaster, as the new home of DoorCo Manufacturing and centre for Innovation. DoorCo operations manager, Mark Towers reveals more about the Doncaster plans.

Our expansion to Doncaster is a big move for DoorCo. It’s a whole new facility that requires its own infrastructure, a new team dedicated to running it and it represents significant investment.

But the result is a fourth stand-alone site to support our oversees operations and a new home for DoorCo Manufacturing and R&D to give us greater flexibility to create, test and trial more products, right here in the UK.

The expansion is a natural progression for DoorCo enabling us to grow, gain more control of our manufacturing processes here and have more space for innovation, something we are fully committed to doing more of.

Our commitment was also endorsed by our recent ‘Most Innovative Business’ win at the UK Manufacturing Awards. The award recognises our work on the recent Innovation Week marketing campaign which saw us launch over 10 new products and supply chain updates in just five days.

Engineering and creativity are qualities we pride ourselves on, so to have been awarded this title is a real badge of honour for us and sets a great benchmark for 2024 and our Doncaster plans.

DoorCo Manufacturing

DoorCo Manufacturing is a new arm to the business being run out of Doncaster to work alongside our overseas partners in the production of our growing composite door portfolio.

The additional space in Doncaster allows us to have a UK-based location to produce new products on a full-time basis and we’re in the final stages of bringing its first creation to market: a new solid core composite door.

In addition to our two current door slabs, we recognised there was an obvious opening for the addition of a new product that is accessible for the whole market. Making it in the UK in Doncaster and having total control of the process was a natural choice.

The new door’s construction is a timber core finished with thermoplastic CoolSkin technology. As with all DoorCo slabs, the new door will be made to fit any profile on the market, making it a versatile solution for our network.

The new slab will be available in existing styles including 6/4 combi, flush, farmhouse, as well as two new exclusive designs just for this range, which means it can create all the favourite DoorCo designs, and more. The product will be made in Doncaster and prepped, if required, in Macclesfield and distributed along our normal supply routes. The product collection will also come in over 15 standard colours.

Supporting our other brands

DoorCo is already the proud owner of three unique brands in the industry: Original – the UK’s favourite foam-filled choice; Gripcore, the superior solid core option that combines timber, foam and aluminium in its core to deliver impressive strength and performance; and Flip, our exclusive and versatile glazing cassette system.

The new door is designed to bolster our current portfolio with a cost-effective solid core choice that performs well.

Establishing the new Doncaster site and the new door product is a project I have been working on behind the scenes for some time, so it’s great to see our plans coming together and being able to share them with the market.

We’re in the final stages of bringing this to market now and it is due to go into full production very soon.
