Smooth sailing in 2022

The demand for home improvements is set to continue well into 2022, but it is the luxury architectural designs that are proving particularly popular, says managing director of Apeer, Asa McGillian.

Walk down any average residential street and you will see the beginnings of a design revolution happening. Front doors used to be an afterthought, with products installed if they were an approximate match in design and colour to the existing windows, or the style of a property.

If they were practical and looked OK, they were in. But in 2022, after years of becoming more of a focus for homeowners, the front door is stepping even further into the limelight and becoming integral to the look and feel of the entire property.

Bringing thoughtful design to our homes is a must have this year with the continued need for a safe and secure base to protect our mental and physical wellbeing. Interior designers are on board too, guiding consumers to pay more attention to the entrance of their homes.

Monique Tollgard is one such designer, stating: “The entrance is the first encounter for homeowners, their guests and their home. The materials and colours we use allows us to introduce the ‘red thread’ or guiding motif of the house immediately.’

So, we know homeowners are paying more attention to their front doors this year, but what are they looking for from their new entrance? Which design features are winning favour? Managing director of composite door manufacturer Apeer, Asa McGillian, has the answers…

Making dreams a reality

“Consumers can’t help but get swept up by the multitude of property programmes still playing on repeat on our TV screens,” says Asa. “Whether it is home improvements, moving house, or renovation projects, we all love peeking inside other people’s homes, commenting on the design choices made and dreaming of how we’d do it differently.

“Increasingly though, in part thanks to a wider range of products on the market, and in part due to the pandemic encouraging us to focus our attention and budgets on our homes, we are making these dreams a reality,” he continues. “These dreams tend to be minimalist, involve architectural products using darker colours and smoother, sleeker lines, and consist of a clean and contemporary aesthetic. These trends are precisely why our Silka range is the perfect addition to any portfolio.

“Our Silka collection is the perfect on-trend luxurious door to help homeowners make a statement with a front door that is the perfect focal point of their home,” says Asa. “

With a unique, smooth texture, Silka is a door like no other. The range looks like aluminium with a precision crafted surface and has an all-glass glazing trim with glass bonded onto a ceramic border to provide a completely flush finish – meeting the brief for minimalism and sleeker lines perfectly.

“Simplicity is the name of the game with Silka, which is also why we have not included an overwhelming number of colour options. These sleek designs are available in black or anthracite grey to maximise on the trend towards dark colours.

No compromises necessary

“Our focus on aesthetics in the Silka range is complemented by a high standard of security and robust construction with an expanded mesh reinforcing inserted into a strong, high-density polyurethane core alongside an extremely strong vertical steel bar,” explains Asa.

“This formula of strength and excellence means the range also exceeds all Police-approved security standards, giving homeowners and in turn installers, complete peace of mind. The polyurethane core also means improved thermal performance, which is another critical buzzword for home improvements in 2022.

Ensuring success in 2022

Asa concludes: “Some trends come and go but the desire for sleek, luxurious, architectural doors that are also energy efficient and secure, is here to stay. Our Silka range has proved so popular because it is meeting an extremely specific demand with precision. We’re proud to continue delivering what consumers want and need to make their existing home the home of their dreams, and to give installers the absolute best chance of success in 2022.”
