Purelight – designed with installers in mind

Paul Bailey, managing director at Pyramid Profiles, explains why the company designed its own aluminium system.

Aluminium windows and doors continue to be a popular alternative to PVC-U but for many installers the options they have from aluminium systems don’t hit the mark.

We knew from the start that customers would need more than is available from the limited aluminium offering, so we designed and created our own system, Purelight.

We knew from our 27 years of experience in PVC-U that the more we could do in the factory to help customers, the easier their lives were onsite. So, when we launched our bi-fold door in 2016, we came to it from a different angle than other fabricators.

For example: all our doors are assembled on our vertical jigs where the outer frame and sashes are hung together. This means that every door is tested in its finished state which saves time on site as there are fewer adjustments to make.

The Purelight system is designed around installers. Before we begin to design a new product the first thing we do is talk with our customers so we can build in the features they want, like making it easy to bead and slimmer frames.

Maximum glass

Looks are very important when it comes to bi-folds. Having our own system means we could design it for homeowners with very slim frames to maximise the size of the glass. Because bi-folds always compromise a double frame, the slimness of the system makes a huge difference.

Especially as one of the top reasons for choosing big glass doors is to let in as much light as possible. We used a slim frame on our sliding doors too. In fact, for both our bi-folds and sliders, they are one of the slimmest on the market.

As well as aluminium doors, we also have our own aluminium window system within the Purelight range and again, a key design feature is the slim frame and sash.

Ready for Part L

New Part L Building Regulations relating to thermal efficiency are coming into force on 15 June 2022, with doors requiring a lower U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or below, and windows a minimum of 1.2 W/m²K.

This change to Building Regulations is part of the Government’s drive to ensure that both new build and existing homes are more energy efficient. In addition, it is likely that the recent hikes in fuel prices are likely to push energy efficiency higher up the needs for consumers. We are ahead of this, and all our windows and door can comply with the new regulations.

What’s new in 2022

We have some exciting developments in 2022 with two new products in the Purelight range in the pipeline. We are also creating a new suite of marketing support materials for installers, including a new brochure and more extensive information on our website.

The homeowner brochure will include photographs and information on the new products and have all the unique benefits of choosing Purelight.

Looking after installers

We know that all the work we put into the design and manufacture of the products in the Purelight range make a difference to installers who get the benefit of having a range of aluminium products that look brilliant, perform superbly and fit like a dream.

Since day one back in 1995, everything we do at Pyramid Profiles is designed to make customers’ lives easier. Because of our extensive experience in PVC-U, we wanted to offer an aluminium system that would tick all the boxes for customers. After looking at what was on offer, we felt that the only way to offer an aluminium system that could deliver everything our customers wanted was to design our own, which is why we created Purelight.
