Open wide

The trend for wide expanse patio doors has never been stronger, explains Carmen Velilla, brand manager at PatioMaster.

The homeowner trend for wide expanse patio doors continues to grow, and the new PatioMaster Triple-track goes above and beyond in delivering on this.

PatioMaster East Midlands is the latest PatioMaster branch to open, and director of the branch Neil Dattani said there’s one product that’s exceeding all expectations.

“We’re seeing a constant demand for Triple-track as more installers are seeing the benefits that the product can offer customers wanting the large expanse that these doors can bring,” he said.

In the first instance, it delivers the stunning expanses of glass homeowners are looking for; Triple-track doors have a maximum opening of up to 6m, so they deliver the open-house feel that’s so popular. They also offer up to 25% more open space than a conventional patio door.

Despite the expanse of glass, thermal efficiency isn’t compromised. Triple-track doors take 24mm or 28mm sealed units and feature benefits such as a rigid, 60mm multi-chamber outer frame made from an insulating PVCU-aluminium composite that reduces thermal transmittance across the frame and highly effective seals to eliminate drafts. It means PatioMaster Triple-track doors can achieve a Window Energy Rating band of A+ and a U-value as low as 1.2W/m2K.

When homeowners think glazed doors they often think bifolds. But they aren’t right for all homes, and the Triple-track delivers more than the bifold alternative in several key areas.

Firstly, because the Triple-track has two or four sliding sashes that stack neatly behind each other, there are no panes of glass encroaching on inside or outside space when they’re open. When they’re closed, they offer a greater uninterrupted view as the panels can be much larger: up to 1,500mm wide. This also means they have an improved glass to frame ratio when compared to a similar sized door, which is especially important on smaller frame sizes. Considering the Great British weather means the doors are more likely to be closed than open for most of the year, these are critical considerations.

Triple-track doors can be colour matched to existing frames thanks to the choice of 28 colours and finishes, including grained and flat textures. There’s also a choice of white, gold, brass, chrome, black or silver handles. The overall effect is of a sliding patio door that enhances a home without dominating it.

Triple-track doors feature stainless steel tracks for structural integrity and corrosion resistance, and a third track created with aluminium to give more stability at larger sizes. There is a full range of ancillary products including sills, add-ons and couplers, posts and extension profiles for straightforward installation. The rollers are edge-located for easy adjustment to make life easier too. There is also a mechanically jointed version for hard to access locations.
