Maximising market potential

Aluminium products now account for 50% of Hussey and Briggs’ product offering. That’s a rise of 45% in just five years. and there are plans to increase this further still. By Cotswold Trade Aluminium.

The new year will see Dorset-based Hussey and Briggs open a new 1,200ft2 premium product showroom at its Poundbury site. Working with fabrication partner, Cotswold Trade Aluminium, Hussey and Briggs has extended its aluminium range to include selected products from Schueco and Smart Systems. These will form the centrepiece of the new showroom.

“I was approached by Steve Collett who knew us by reputation and felt we had common goals,” Gary Briggs, managing director and owner of Hussey and Briggs, said. “He knew from experience that I had had issues with several current suppliers over quality and service and felt that Cotswold Trade could help overcome these challenges and develop the aluminium side of our business.”

Cotswold Trade Aluminium is based on 40 years’ industry experience and expertise; at its core it is a manufacturing and installation company.

“They understand both sides of the business and that’s invaluable,” Gary said.

“When we first started out, we aspired to be known for quality products and installations. Working with Cotswold Trade Aluminium, I am confident of the quality of their manufactured product and support. We share the same commitment to excellence and service, and this is reflected in our partnership.”

Cotswold Trade Aluminium works with a select number of preferred partners, building long-term, prosperous relationships. The company offers a curated range of aluminium entrance doors, sliding and bifolding doors, and windows from Schueco and Smart Systems.

It also has the experience, expertise and products to support its partners in maximising the opportunities for large glazed products.

“This was one area that we were keen to develop,” Gary said. “Being a scenic coastal county there’s a growing demand for large openings. In exposed locations product performance is everything so it was critical that we chose an aluminium fabricator that could deliver long-lasting, high-performance windows and doors, with the capability to go big. Steve and his team can do exactly that.

“They recently helped with a 7m-wide, two-pane lift and slide door. We received not just the fabricated product but assistance with glass handling and installation – a level of support which is unheard of from other suppliers.”

For more than 20 years Hussey and Briggs has installed windows, doors and conservatories across west Dorset. A trained City and Guilds carpenter and joiner, Gary Briggs started the business in June 1997 with former partner, Martin Hussey. Today, the business is managed by Gary and his wife.

In the beginning, Hussey and Briggs offered PVCU windows, doors, conservatories and roofline but with changing trends, technological advances and new systems, the business has expanded to maximise market potential, adding aluminium, bespoke joinery and fibreglass flat roofing to its portfolio.

“Over the years, we have become far more than an installation company,” Gary said. “We have developed and honed our skills and services to better serve our clientele.”

With a background in joinery, Gary has used this to advance the business, offering a home improvement service.

“With several members of the team adept and certified wood workers, we can offer complementary services including kitchen and bathroom installations, repair work to existing timber and PVCU windows, and loft conversions,” he said.

Yet it is the partnership with Cotswold Trade Aluminium which is helping to shape the future of Hussey and Briggs.

“There are some extraordinary properties and developments in Dorset,” he said. “Our new aluminium offering will give access to these exceptional, high-specification buildings. It’s an exciting time for Hussey and Briggs and we’re pleased to have the exceptional support of Steve and his team.”
