Going beyond what it required
By Ben Brocklesby, director at Origin.
We’ve kicked-started the new decade with something that, as a business, we are extremely proud of: receiving our ISO 45001 accreditation, the international standard for health and safety at work.
This achievement demonstrates our compliance with health and safety law, and in many respects, goes beyond what the law requires.
Everybody within the fenestration industry will know that the ISO 45001 certification was developed to mitigate any factors that could cause employees and/or businesses irreparable harm. Unquestionably for us, the improved health and safety of workers is a number one priority no matter the financial ramifications. Indeed, it should be the number one priority within any workplace, and it is deeply concerning that data shows that there were still 147 workplace deaths in the UK in the 12 months leading up to March 2019.
Things are moving in the right direction, but more needs to be done, and all those companies that have gained their 45001 accreditation are signifying their commitment to their workers.
This new certification means that Origin is now ISO 45001, 9001 (Quality Management) and 14001 (Environmental Management) verified, making us the only fabricator in the country to be triple badge accredited. This has really positive knock-on effects internally and on our standing as a top employer, plus, it also gives our partners even greater confidence in working with us. They can trust our values and our ways of operating, resting safe in the knowledge that ethically, we are the number one choice, as well as when it comes to lead times, product quality and service.
In a similar vein to my January column, one of our major focuses for the year ahead is to further improve the relationships that we have with our 900 partners across the country. Being triple badge accredited means that our partners are now able to promote the ‘why Origin’ philosophy, using values, accreditations and morals to sell products, rather than exclusively comparing on product alone.
This empowers our partners, and future partners, to choose us over the competition, allowing us to grow our percentage of sales within their businesses.
