An ideal partnership

Simon Monks, MD of VBH, gives an example of how customers benefit when hardware and profile suppliers work in partnership.

As one of the largest and longest serving hardware specialists in the business, we are often asked to work alongside companies from other aspects of the window and door industry to develop hardware products.

Having our own greenteQ hardware brand, with its UK-based product development team, puts us in an ideal position to partner with major players such as large fabricators seeking bespoke fittings for their own fenestration products.

We also partner with systems companies to develop solutions for new window and door systems that are coming to market.

The partnership between VBH and Garnalex is one such example.

When Garnalex was formed, and started the process of designing its impressive Sheerline suite of window and door systems, it was very aware that hardware needed to be factored into the design at an early stage to provide the best solutions for their customers.

VBH’s new product development team worked with their counterparts at Garnalex over the past few months on a number of developments, including the new Prestige bifold door system that was recently launched.

Sheerline’s new bifold is a top-quality product: up to a seven-panes, outward or inward-opening, and four different threshold combinations.

As the doors could be up to 6.5m x 2.6m, Garnalex’s choice of hardware had to be sufficiently strong and hard wearing to cope with large, heavy sashes. This requirement is compounded by Prestige’s ability to cope with double glazed and triple glazed units to achieve a U-value of 1.0W/m²K.

The greenteQ Clearspan bifold hardware range was tried and tested since first launching in 2013. It has become a market leader on a number of profiles in that time and ticks all the boxes required by the Sheerline spec.

The weight situation is ably coped with by the Clearspan running gear, as it is designed to carry sash weights of up to 120kg with ease.

Ample adjustment is provided to make the installation of even large sashes very straightforward, with the adjustment points being protected from the elements by a discreet cover cap.

Clearspan hinges are available with or without an integrated pull handle, so Clearspan is suitable for both inward and outward opening doors. The three standard finishes of anthracite grey, black and white perfectly complement the 12 stocked colours of the Sheerline suite.

As well as our standard Clearspan set for Sheerline, we have also developed a PAS24:2016 security solution, which features the popular greenteQ Orion TS007 profile cylinder on the main passage door.

Being a 3-Star cylinder, this enables the fabricator to fit either our Alpha Slim lever handle set, or our standard Alpha lever handle, which is available in 10 colours of the greenteQ Suite of matching window door and patio furniture. As the suite covers patio doors, it enables installers to tie together a full house installation, giving them an edge over their competition.

Sheerline bifold doors geared with the greenteQ PAS24 solution are also eligible for our Q-secure Premium consumer security guarantee which will pay the homeowner up to £8,000 in the event of a break-in being due to the failure of an item of Q-secure-approved hardware.

I’m personally delighted to be working with Garnalex, and am very pleased at the way that the two technical teams have worked together as one to bring this project to fruition. It’s been seamless.

The relationship between us is set to grow further as the two companies work together to provide more excellent products for our mutual customers.
