There have been some big changes at the top of the supply chain so far this year.

We’ve seen Duraflex announce that it is to wind down operations at its Tewksbury site, Safestyle has made the switch to Liniar profile and now Everest has agreed a supply deal with Veka.

According to Everest 2020, the owner of the Everest brand, Veka was chosen because of its ‘manufacturing capabilities, technical specification and product innovation’ but adds that it was the ‘people, quality standards and green credentials’ that really stood out.

Coincidently, there have also been rumours of disgruntled fabricators elsewhere in the supply chain, who are now also looking at switching PVC suppliers – as well as talk of long waiting lists for machinery and tooling, the engineers to commission and service them and for new software packages.

So, is the industry in a period of flux?

It will almost certainly be the case that many fabs will have assessed their PVC production and will now be asking themselves if it’s worth the effort, especially if their output is biased towards ‘standard’ white product where margins are low at best.

Some might also be thinking that it’s time for a change based on the levels of service they are getting from their current supplier.

This in turn creates a big opportunity for system suppliers that can promise great customer service, as well as improved manufacturing and installation efficiencies, but also a product range that allows fabs to tap into demand at the higher end of the market, where homeowners will pay more for a premium finish, for colour and for flush windows and doors.

For the same reason, it could also prompt fabs to increase or make a switch to aluminium production.

In this week’s newsletter for example, Ireland based fabricator, Weatherglaze has switched to Aluplast, and is now set to take advantage of its Ideal 70 suite, its flush casement and door range and its colour offer.

Foiled product now accounts for as much as 50% of Aluplast’s total order volume.
