Jade Engineering has reported that it has had to work overtime to keep up with the number of fabricators who have been looking to switch suppliers following the closure of Duraflex.

As the industry’s main supplier of tooling for both PVC and aluminium systems, it’s safe to say that Jade has its finger on the pulse of UK window and door manufacturing and it is interesting to see the impact that Duraflex’s departure has had on the industry.Β

It has obviously been good news for Jade, as the β€˜first point of contact’ from system companies and fabricators, with the business running flat out to support its customers.Β

But there has also been some negative fallout, with rumours of suppliers offering ex Duraflex fabs favourable prices for profile – something that, I hear, hasn’t gone down to well with existing customers.

As Richard Diliberto, sales director at Comp Door, comments in this week’s newsletter, selling on price to undercut the competition, β€˜harms the whole industry’.Β

He adds that the industry β€˜relies on innovation and healthy competition’ and that the practice of reducing prices is threatening to stifle the industry and inhibit its β€˜capacity to evolve’.
