The G26 Award organisers announced this year’s finalists on Friday last week, with an impressive list of nominees over 13 categories.

In addition to the traditional – and much sought after – awards that include Best Fabricator, Installer and New Product, the G26s will include a number of new award categories this year, with the winners announced on Friday 27 November at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

In other news, the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has announced that it is planning to carry out spot checks on IGU manufacturers, to ensure compliance for BS EN1279, the standard that includes gas filling requirements on double and triple glazed units.

Speaking at last week’s Glazing Summit, the OPSS confirmed it now has the equipment to carry out checks, which can accurately measure the volume of gas in IGUs.

The OPSS carries significant enforcement powers and does not announce its checks in advance.

Earlier in the year the OPSS widespread failure of compliance with heat soaked, thermally toughened glass and issued nine Prohibition Notices to six manufacturers.

The GGF is warning manufacturers to examine their compliance procedures and is also seeking clarification from the OPSS on what enforcement action manufacturers could face.
