There were numerous product launches at this year’s FIT Show but one of the real highlights for me was the introduction of a new, ultra-thin triple glazing solution that is being brought to market by Regency Glass.

The party piece of this new triple glazed IGU is that it can fit into a standard 28mm profile, so it can be offered as a direct upgrade from existing double glazing, but without the traditional problems associated with weight and handling.

According to Regency, it is around 30% lighter than conventional triple and offers U values of between 0.7 and 0.9 W/m2k.

At the heart of this new offer is a revolutionary 0.5mm ultra-thin glass that has been developed by Corning, which is the same company behind Gorilla Glass, Pyrex Glassware and a whole host of innovations that date back to 1879 and the first glass encasement for Thomas Edison’s carbon filament lightbulb.

Regency has invested Β£15million to bring the technology to the UK market, signing a deal with Glaston, Hegla and software provider Jotika at FIT Show, and has recently unveiled a new manufacturing and distribution facility in Warrington, dedicated to ultra-thin glass triple glazed IGUs

In other news, Rehau has reported the sales of flush fit windows are continuing to rise. Rehau says that it saw a 14% uplift in sales of its Rio sash in 2024, a 70% upturn in sales of the matching Rio door.

This chimes with wider industry reports that demand for premium products remains relatively strong and also feedback from other system houses that flush windows are continuing to gain market share over β€˜regular casements’.

For fabricators and installers, partnering with a supplier than can deliver high quality flush products is clearly more important than ever, and especially one that can support the corresponding demand for foiled finished and authentic timber alternative details.
