Glass partitions and sliding doors are everywhere, and for good reason. Found across offices, hotels and hospitality venues, and high-end residential properties, they provide the flexibility to both divide and open indoor spaces, as well as creating a seamless connection between indoors and out.

But whilst architects, interior designers and specifiers often put a lot of thought into the glass and framing, the hardware required to operate glass doors and partitions can often be overlooked, with standard door kit furniture used that doesn’t necessarily meet the quality or design intent of the overall project.

There are also practical considerations to take into account which may mean an alternative or bespoke solution will be advantageous. Security, fire safety, performance and durability are all important specification factors and a more tailored approach will allow the hardware to be more closely matched to these specific requirements, often resulting in better overall performance and longevity.

There is of course a place for standard door kit systems. They can provide an effective solution for many applications, especially where budget is a factor, but by their nature they come with limitations. The key is understanding when a standard solution is appropriate and when the demands of the project warrant something more considered.
