Retrofittable, and combining the very best of smart and mechanical security, Mighton’s founder and chairman, Mike Derham, discusses the advantages of the Avia Secure range.

β€œWhat are consumers looking for in a smart home security solution? Primarily, they want to know it is actually capable of securing their property, that it is robust enough to stand up to a traditional physical assault as well as a more sophisticated cyber attack,” explains Mike Derham, founder and chairman of Mighton Products.

β€œBut smart security should also be easy to interact with and crucially, easy to fit. Products that are only available to people who buy new window and doors, that need to be prepped by a fabricator and then sold on as an added extra – typically with costly subscription fees – are no good to homeowners who want smart security but don’t need to upgrade their existing windows or doors.

β€œUnlike a number of competitor systems, our Avia Secure family of smart security products can be easily retrofitted,” continues Mike.

β€œThey are quick and easy to install, but also to remove, repair and upgrade if required. This flexibility combined with the fact that Avia is compatible with all Apple products, and the top-tier cyber security associated with that brand, makes it an extremely compelling offer for installers and fabricators who are looking to take full advantage of growing consumer demand for smart home security.”

Designed to be compatible with all Apple products, including iPhone, iPad, Apple watch – the Avia Smart Deadlock+ lock also works with Apple Home Keys – all products in the Avia Secure range operate seamlessly with Apple’s Homekit.

The range includes Avia’s market leading multi-point smart lock, one of the first locks to be awarded Sold Secure SS301 Silver approval and a previous recipient of the Internet of Things (IoT) β€˜Smart Lock Product of the Year’, a globally recognised accolade that again underlines the quality of the device’s smart security.

The Avia Secure smart lock also features a 2-star external handle and a 3-star cylinder, a reinforced stainless steel backing plate to protect against external attack and pull through access to the smart lock. It’s designed and tested to PAS 24:2016 and can be manually operated by a key in the unlikely event of an outage.

Other products in the Avia Secure range include a smart casement handle, which is available in a range of finishes and has recently achieved SBD approval following PAS24 testing.

Additional options include the Avia Secure sash fastener and window & door sensors, all of which are battery operated and are designed to be paired quickly and simply to Apple devices via Bluetooth LE technology.

Once connected, they give homeowners the ability to remotely check the status of their doors and windows.

These are complimented by the Avia Secure BSI approved smart socket, a highly useful device in its own right thanks to energy monitoring and remote scheduling functions as well as the ability to provide audio and visual feedback, plus an advanced PIR motion sensor.

Capable of operating for over a year on battery power alone – or up to five years if combined with an optional mini solar panel – the PIR motion sensor can detect potential intruders from up to 10m away, sounding an audible alert or powerful LED when activated.

β€œWe’ve invested a huge amount of effort into making sure Avia Secure delivers market leading security,” continues Mike. β€œAnd crucially, each device in the Avia range connects and interacts with each other seamlessly through Apple Automation.

β€œThe Avia Secure smart lock has been subjected to extensive physical and cyber security testing at the world’s best testing houses, including for ETSi accreditation which is an international standard.

β€œThat’s reflected in four consecutive wins, from 2000 to 2023, at the IoT Breakthrough Awards, an event that attracts thousands of companies from all over the world, including the likes of Apple, fitbit and Vodafone.

β€œBut we’ve also worked very hard to ensure that all the Avia Secure family of products are intuitive to use and easy to fit,” he concludes. β€œUltimately, that’s given our customers a big advantage in a market that is enjoying growing demand from consumers for smart security solutions that are truly fit for purpose.”
