Super school support

Dudley’s Aluminium has finished its work with Willmott Dixon to support the construction of the new £25m Islwyn High School, in Caerphilly.

Dudley’s installed the aluminium facade and key structural fixtures at the site, including curtain walling, windows and doors. This project also represents the first collaboration between Dudley’s and Aluk.

Islwyn School, which was built on the former Oakdale Colliery site, will replace the Oakdale and Pontllanfraith secondary schools and opens in September 2017.

The secondary school will house up to 1,075 children, across 60 classrooms, and contain a 3G sports pitch, multi-use games area, eight science laboratories, and a learning resource centre.

The development of Islwyn School is being supported through the 21st Century Schools programme, which is funded and managed by the Welsh government and local authorities.

Managing director Colin Shorney said: “We hope the school not only showcases our expertise, but leaves a long-lasting legacy for the school. We are also delighted to have completed our first project with AluK.”
