Saint-Gobain Glass has won the Design of the Year Award for its Eden β New Bailey project at this yearβs Glass Focus awards.
The awards took place in London on Friday 22 November, and The Design of the Year Award (supported by the Glass and Glazing Federation) recognises an amazing feat of flat glass design.
The Eden β New Bailey project is a pioneering 12-storey, 115,000ft2 office development, where sustainability and net zero carbon principles were prioritised, meeting the rigorous standards set by the UK Green Building Council for operational carbon neutrality.
The Saint-Gobain Glass Cool-Lite Xtreme product range was used in the project. The solar control glass features a high light transmission value, which is designed to maximise daylight while reducing cooling loads and potential reliance on air conditioning. With a centre pane U-value of 1.0W/m2K, it boasts excellent thermal insulation, promoting energy savings.
Given the building’s Manchester city centre location, noise reduction was a critical consideration. The Cool-Lite Xtreme range, when paired with Stadip Silence, significantly reduces noise β according to Saint-Gobain Glass β creating a quieter and more comfortable indoor environment.
Mike Butterick, marketing director at Saint-Gobain Glass, said: βWe are delighted to have won the Design of the Year β Flat glass award for the Eden New Bailey project. The project demonstrates a commitment to environmental responsibility and occupant wellbeing and ensures a future-proof workspace that resonates with the sustainability values of tomorrow. It was wonderful to be involved with, and that its objectives have been recognised by the Glass Focus Awards.β
Saint-Gobain Glass was also a finalist in the βInnovative Solutionβ and the βSustainable Practiceβ categories.
