Pyroguard’s toughened Protect glazing system has been specified for the nine-storey Tribe Hotel, set in the heart of Airport City Manchester’s hotel district.
Once completed, the nine-storey Tribe Hotel will provide guests and travellers with 412 bedrooms and suites, a restaurant and bar, gym and a crew lounge for airline staff.
At the centre of the hotel is a glazed internal atrium, leading from the main lobby area and around which many of the hotel rooms are located. With these rooms offering views out onto the atrium, it was essential that the windows were constructed from fire-rated glazing requiring 60 minutes integrity and insulation protection.
OWS was responsible for designing, manufacturing and installing all fire-rated glazing systems for the new-build hotel, working closely with main contractor, MY Construction, to help them meet the required levels of compliance.
Given the hotel’s close proximity to Manchester Airport, acoustic performance was another critical specification requirement.
Andy Vooght, sales director at OWS, explained: “It was important to our client that we didn’t just meet the minimum decibel rating as stated by Building Regulations, but that we exceeded it. Our goal was to achieve a sound reduction of over 50dB. Combining this level of acoustic performance with the required passive fire protection was a complex challenge, and after researching the market, Pyroguard was one of the only suppliers which was able to confidently meet this design brief without the need to compromise on safety.
“Its toughened Pyroguard Protect solution not only met the required EI60 fire performance and acoustic properties but also delivered excellent light transmission, making it the ideal choice for the project.
“Another benefit was Pyroguard’s locality to the project, with the glass manufactured from its site in Haydock. As well as aiding with logistics, this also helped to reduce the project’s carbon footprint.”
Installed within an aluminium frame, Pyroguard Protect EI60 was specified across 98 windows throughout the hotel rooms.
Andy concluded: “At OWS, we regularly partner with Pyroguard and have used many of its fire safety glass solutions on projects. The support from its expert sales and technical teams has always been invaluable, working closely with us to help meet the required levels of compliance and, most importantly, provide the test evidence to back up the system specification.”
