Top environmental results

Sidey has achieved zero waste land fill and 100% recycling from its manufacturing plant.

It has also increased the amount of recycled materials used and achieved the top environmental accreditation ISO 14001:2015.

Driving this initiative for Sidey is Robert Fitzpatrick, group accreditations manager-HSQE, who works directly with the board of directors at Sidey to keep environmental issues top of the agenda.

Robert said: “We operate lean manufacturing processes where waste is seen as bad and non-productive. It’s not just in the factory, our installations are undertaken in a clear, effective and environmentally friendly manner, engaging with our customers and interested parties.

“We now have zero landfill from our manufacturing facilities and 90%-100% recyclable recoverable waste, which is a massive improvement from the 8%-9% 10 years ago when we started the scheme. In 2015, we first achieved 100% recycling from manufacturing waste which we have maintained every year since.”

All glass and PVCU products are manufactured using a large percentage of recycled materials. Any timber used is sourced through The Forest Stewardship Council certification scheme.

“We proactively promote sustainability at all levels of our business,” Robert said. “Our dedication to the environment doesn’t stop with us. We also have a robust and comprehensive process for any sub-contractors we use so that we deliver the exact same high standards on site. Sidey works in partnership with our clients’ stakeholders and interested parties by promoting a sustainable environment. This also helps local authorities, housing associations, RSLs, developers and clients increase their environmental commitments.”
