New design for Gripcore

DoorCo has unveiled a new version of Gripcore, which will be available for order in Janaury 2024.

Gripcore’s new core has evolved into a hybrid timber-foam core that is said to be stronger, more secure and more thermally efficient than solid timber core counterparts. The new product is designed to comply with 2025 regulations and beyond.

DoorCo’s technical and sales manager, Ian Glenister, said: “With the energy efficiency of UK homes under scrutiny and the resulting changes in U-value requirements for building regulations due in 2025, we reviewed the efficiency of Gripcore to ensure our leading premium door slab was future-proofed to exceed the new regulations.

“The core now comprises layers of both PIR foam and HDF plywood, compressed between two sheets of aluminium. The combination of foam and wood provides enhanced thermal capabilities and impressive strength, whilst the aluminium acts as a vital layer for protecting against moisture infiltration.

“It’s then finished with an additional sheet of exterior grade plywood and of course, our signature 5mm GRP skins core. When you bring all the elements together, you’re presented with a one-of-a-kind, premium slab that delivers a low centre pane U-value of just 0.8.

Ellie Pool, DoorCo marketing manager, said: “Gripcore has always been our premium slab offering. This new version delivers something totally unique thanks to its high-quality and one-of-a-kind composition. It is the product that offers all the USPs that any homeowner could be looking for – stability, weather resistance, strength and style.

“The feedback from customers so far has been extremely positive. Our network of fabricators are excited to be able to offer such a high-quality product in their composite door portfolio.

“Gripcore’s unique core is an industry-first and we’re ready to support our customers in bringing it to market with a brand-new brochure featuring a fresh new range of colours.”
