UAP acquires locking systems from Laidlaw

UAP has acquired the Newcastle-based company Locking Systems, an independent supplier that provides locking cylinders and a personalised masterkeying service to locksmiths and architectural ironmongery companies throughout the UK.

Locking Systems operates in Gateshead and offers a range of cylinder solutions varied by the requirements of security and masterkeying; its cylinder solutions can be tailored to individual needs.

David Jennings, CEO of UAP, said: “This move will not only strengthen our own master suite offer, but also give us a significant entry into the commercial lock market including the architectural ironmongery sector.

“This is a very positive strategic move by us, and reinforces our goal of being the best euro cylinder supplier in the market.”

UAP has also acquired the Firemongery brand from Laidlaw. The company intends to run this brand under Intelligent Hardware and offer a range of ‘Compliance Made Easy’ fire rated products.

UAP stated that acquisition has become a key part of its strategy, supported by significant private equity funding from Maven Capital Partners, following the management buyout of UAP in September 2018.

This purchase is the first of two planned acquisitions for 2020, with others under negotiation.

“We’d like to remind company owners in the industry that if you are finding the market difficult, consider approaching us to join the UAP group,” David said.
