Smart Ready will be hosting a ‘Factchecked Service’ at the FIT Show on Stand H11. According to Smart Ready’s Giovanni Laporta, the service will help combat disinformation about smart technology in the market and help companies get in a position where they can trust what they’re being told about smart windows and doors.

Giovanni commented: “Currently, there are several trending disinformation examples in the smart door and window markets or what I call them ‘half-truths’, which conveniently leave out major security flaws with their smart tech. This is due to the emerging smart technologies, which force a majority of industry companies out of their comfort zone, away from what they know best, which is making good hardware or good windows and doors.

He continued: “Disinformation examples our research has found include: ‘Our app knows when your doors are open and closed’ when in truth the smart technology being promoted doesn’t know when the door is ‘open or closed’.

“Another major security super flaw, this time with double (French) doors, in that, the smart sensor doesn’t know if the slave side of a double French door is secure, key locked, if open or not. Also trending sales disinformation example is ‘Insurance Backed’ which makes people believe it has been performance underwritten by insurers, when in reality, it’s a sales lead generating service that gets you go to a particular insurance quote provider. All serious disinformation sales messages.”

“Unless disinformation or a half truth is called out, it will be the consumer and the fenestration industry as a whole that will suffer,” explained Gio. “Consumers get wise after they are asked to part with cash, and if the installation company hasn’t delivered the complete solution they were expecting, there’s going to be trouble for those spreading disinformation, innocently or otherwise.

“Having finally shaken off the tarnish of ‘White Gold’, do we as an industry really want to go back? We need to stop the irresponsible marketing,” he concluded. “Disinformation ‘super spreaders’ need to be stopped. Ask questions. Are the sales facts you are reading correct? Don’t get caught up in misinformation.

“Smart Ready aims to put an end to dangerous sales messaging and managing of the truth. The Factchecked tick sheet at FIT will go into the detail of different smart solutions on offer, technology capability and will also address highly questionable advertising and sales claims.”
