DoorCo’s commercial director, Ben Aspinall, reflects on the trends that the unprecedented summer weather is encouraging, reporting a rise in sales for stable doors, short doors and door upgrades for the less typical areas of the home.

The recent run of heatwaves has sent a flurry of stable door enquiries that we have passed on to our customers, resulting in a significant jump in sales for our purpose-built product.

Stable doors are the perfect way of increasing ventilation in a home, without compromising on security. Customers are loving the choices available in the range. There are both Original and GripCore slab options, available in a wide range of cottage style designs, exclusive glass options, a wide range of colours, and all finished with market leading Winkhaus stable door locking kits and Stormguard weather bars, which are painted to match the door colour for a seamless finish.

Stable doors are an obvious choice for a back or side door, but do we make the most of the opportunity to upsell composite doors in other, less obvious areas of the home? Back and side doors, pedestrian doors into garages, garden rooms, sheds, outbuildings and home offices all benefit from the added protection a composite door provides. Especially when you consider security.

Security all round
According to the 2025 Burglary report, around a quarter of all home burglaries happen through the back door, and in damage reports, most cases (66%) homeowners reported damage to an external door.

With the advancement of door products and smart locks, upgrading a back, side, outbuilding and even a garage door should be a consideration for any homeowner, and are the ideal opportunity to upsell.

Short doors for smaller apertures
