Open day marks first anniversary
ERC Testing – the Leigh-based test house set up in 2016 to facilitate testing of window, doors and safety glass – recently opened its doors to visitors keen to get a greater understanding of the types of testing that take place.
Mike Hackett, test laboratory manager, said: “The open day was the perfect opportunity for us to dispel the myths about product testing. When customers are putting products in to be tested, it can be quite daunting, but we talk through each process so they have a full understanding of what is taking place with an aim to taking the stress out of the situation.”
Main tests include weather testing, security testing to PAS 24: 2016, and other operation tests. Safety glass testing may include impact testing (EN 12600), fragmentation testing (EN 12150-1) and four-point bend testing EN 1288-3).
“As a test house, we are a new name in the industry, but I’ve been in the fenestration industry for 30 years now so have a good understanding of products and production processes and my colleague Pete for 17 years, which definitely helps as we are able to see if from the customer’s side of things,” Mike said.
