Number one choice in staircase design

New research by Specialist Glass Products has found that UK homeowners are coosing glass staircasing and balustrading over traditional styles.

The study reviewed the most searched staircase trends and outlines, in order of popularity, the most prominent designs, styles and structures to provide property makeover inspiration.

Coming out top in the results was glass balustrading, the perfect option for those looking to create an airy open space without installing an all-glass staircase. With over 22,000 monthly searches, glass balustrades serve well in the retail and hospitality sectors as well as at home thanks to their durability, providing safety and security.

Coming joint top place was stair runners, which have seen a revival in recent years, particularly for transforming run-down properties and home renovation projects.

Surprisingly, glass staircases came second place above more traditional alternatives, including wooden and metal staircases, with over 18,000 monthly searches last month.

Glass staircase’s popularity has risen over the years, increasing by 49% year on year, thanks to its ability to allow natural light to pour through. Natural daylight can improve productivity and alertness, which is ideal with lockdown forcing remote working trends. According to recent research, 26% of Brits plan to continue working from home permanently or flexibly after lockdown.

SGP’s managing director Andrew Taylor said: “Design trends are forever changing, and with the recent pandemic, our needs and wants have also changed, particularly in the corporate world. Many businesses are adopting a more sustainable practice, with the focus on employee wellbeing shaping the way we live and work. Whether you’re looking to update your workplace or home, you’ll want to keep up to date with the latest interior trends”.
