In training for great run

A team of experienced and first-time runners will be taking to the streets of Birmingham on Sunday October 13 to complete in the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run.

A 17-strong team from Vertik-Al will run 13.1 miles in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.

As an official Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity fundraiser, Vertik-Al has set a £5,000 target.

The directors of Vertik-Al have pledged to match pound for pound all donations received.

This is the first time that the Birmingham-based business has volunteered a team for the half marathon; group managing director Angus Mackie felt it was a great way to build inter-department relations, all while having fun and raising much needed funds for a local charity.

Team Vertik-Al will be supported throughout the event by colleagues, friends and family with flags and banners.

Two of the runners –Vertik-Al’s production director Andy Best, and quality managerMatthew Hill – have been training for over two months, running together whenever possible. Both wish to complete the route in 2.5 hours.

“This is my first half marathon,” Andy said.“I am enjoying the endorphin rush after training, but I must say, it hurts. Like Matthew, I am getting fit, losing weight and enjoying the discipline of training for such an exciting and worthwhile event. The level of sponsorship we have received so far is a great motivator, even when every body-part aches.
