Free ladder safety webinar

Two new guidance documents, jointly released by the Ladder Association and Health and Safety Executive (HSE), are set to help people work more safely on ladders.

With falls from height such a common type of accident – and the leading cause of fatalities at work – the updated guidance will be welcomed by safety professionals, site managers, company directors and ladder users alike, the Ladder Association said.

It is being launched at an online event on Thursday July 15 at 10:30am, which is free to attend.

As well as exclusive first access to the guidance, attendees will learn about the key steps to preventing ladder accidents in the workplace, including how to select (and maintain) safe equipment and ensure all workers are competent.

The event host is Gail Hounslea, chairman of the Ladder Association and managing director of Ladderstore.

She will introduce Paul Cook, who has undertaken a range of senior policy and communications roles with the Health and Safety Executive since 2009 and is currently head of web services, content and design.

Paul will use real life examples to highlight the leading causes of ladder falls, the importance of industry guidance in preventing these accidents and explain the recent changes.

Attendees will then hear from ladder safety experts Don Aers (technical director, the Ladder Association), Francis Camilleri (director, TB Davies), Steve Booker (group managing director, Kentec Training), and Dennis Seaton (regional training manager, HSS Training).

The presentations will round off with Peter Bennett OBE, executive director of the Ladder Association, who will share his thoughts on preventing falls from height on a wider scale, and how each of us can play our part.

All speakers will then be on hand to answer audience questions live.

Attendees will receive a CPD certificate, recording of the event, and an exclusive first look at the HSE’s new ladder safety webpages so they can give feedback before they go live to the public.
